Ann Cunningham is the Executive Director of OASIS Rochester. She is a longtime Irondequoit resident and a member of the Town Board. Rochester Oasis is an organization centered on opportunities in lifelong learning, health, wellness and social engagement. Oasis offers a broad range of stimulating educational classes – from the arts and humanities to wellness, fitness and travel. Members receive a catalog of opportunities three times a year. Membership is free and open to anyone 50 and up in Rochester and surrounding counties.
Oasis has served more than 10,000 people in the Finger Lakes area and over 360,000 nationwide. There are 8 Oasis centers in the country. Rochester has been a center since the 1980's. It became a non-profit in 2021. Our very own Dick Butler is President of the Board for Oasis Rochester. There are 2 paid staff members and over 75 volunteers. Oasis “Everywhere” is a new program that allows you to take classes online from the other centers nationally. Volunteers are needed for: Instructors, Tutors (they tutor elementary students in Churchvill-Chili and Greece), Welcomers, Resistration workers, etc. Funding for the center is available from some state and country grants but they are always in need of private donations. |
