Ann Greenfield worked for law offices and put together an emergency preparedness plan for businesses so decided to create one for individuals and families. She has been attending Rotary meetings and senior homes in the area to share her plan. See her PLAN and list of contents needed here. In case of a disaster, accident, weather related event, fire/flood, or death - the information in her list will be critical and invaluable to have it all together in a place where you can grab it on your way out of the door to your home. She suggests purchasing a large Tupperware/Sterilite container with a top that has lids that can securely seal or lock that will keep the contents secure and waterproof. She aslo suggests that you put the container on the floor of the front closet so that you can grab it as you quickly get out of your home. She also suggests that you put 2 pairs of boots/shoes on top of the container. (For thumb drives that you put in the container, she suggests that you put each one in a separate envelope - identify the contents of the thumb drive on the front of the envelope and include the date that you created it.) The information will also be easily accessible so that if emergency services have to come to your home, the medical information that they need will be easily accessible. The list is big and will take some time to get everything together - but it will be a lifesaver for you in the event of an emergency. Also - please designate a spot at least 100 yards outside of your home for all family members to go to in case of a fire/emergency and make sure that all family members are made aware of the spot. Practice this plan if children are involved. Her recommendation is that you update the contents in your container every year - by January 31st, Insurance policies, tax returns, list of medications, etc. will need to be updated more frequently. Paula Bruno works for Just Solutions and would be happy to help anyone who is looking for digital ways to do much of what the list entails. She also talked about the importance of keeping all your passwords safe and organized. She recommended using a password app for this such as Bitwarden or Keeper but please do your own research to find the one that suits your needs. She also talked about the extreme importance of having your computer backed up to the cloud in case something happens to it or for some reason you cannot access it. This plan is very important for emergencies that might happen in your lifetime but also, in the event of your passing, it will be a huge help to your loved ones to have everything organized and all in one place!! |
Steak & Bocce' Night last week: another wonderful success thanks to the leadership of Lou DiPrima and all who pitched in to help in any way. Seemed like a larger than normal crowd (over 50 attendees). Nice to have the District Governor Jim Crane attend and enjoy the festivities. Even some bocce' was played!
