Program Notes

Shannon Grieve and Shanna Butler updated the club on happenings at the Irondequoit Rec Department.  The department has 30 employees and is located at the Community Center at Skyview for the past 4 years.  They together run many programs for the town with the largest being the 4th of July Festival.  They also manage McAvoy Park which is a newly remodeled state of the art field enjoyed by many.   The Thursday Farm Market is being located indoor's at the new facility at town campus and will become year round.  Upcoming events include a car show (7/27), Hoochenanny Festival (8/8-10 food, music including Joan Jett), Back-to-School bash, Halloween Trunk or Treat, etc.  The town also offers 9 different Day Camps for town children and supports Day of Caring for United Way.   Altoghether, an impressive amount of events coordinated by Irondequoit Rec department!

The Sensory Tent that our club supported for the 4th of July Festival provided a safe sensory space for individuals who benefit from a sensory-friendly environment.  It help them and their loved ones a place to manage stress levels, improve focus, encourage communication and promote sensory exploration and integration.  It provided a safe haven for families.  It needs to be in a secluded space away from music, etc. so in future years, better signage will be provided.  The space affords comfort to those needing assurance that a place like this exists at the festival even if NOT used as it provides peace of mind.  The town was very grateful for the club providing this important resource for the 4th of July Festival.

Our District Grant helped provide the Sensory Tent along with the purchase of T-ball equipment, portable net unit for volleyball, etc. and an event with the Zoomobile.
