Program Notes
Vicky Pape is Director of Animal Placement and Amylark Lorwood is Director of Development at Lollypop Farms, which is 150 years old!  They would like one main take-away from the presentation:  "We take care of both ends of the leash" as there are many programs for the animals as well as their human caretakers.  More than 70% of household in Monroe County have pets.  Lollypop has anywhere from 400-650 pets in their care at any one time (half are in foster homes).  #1 pet - Cats.  They do over 9,000 spay and neuter operations per year with 5 vets on staff of 25 total.  Average length of stay is 18 days for cats and 30 days for dogs.  SPCA protects animals from humans.  They have over 3000 calls per year and start with education but sometime end up policing the situation.  Hoarding cases are growing unfortunately.  Lollypop has a Emergency Response team that helps alleviate needs for police.  They rescued a horse stuck in the mud in Powdermill Park last year.   They have many education programs for care-takers and support services for those who need temporary help taking care of a pet.  In 2024, Lollypop had:  1000+ volunteers, 150,000 visitors, 17,000+ donors and 64,000+ total calls from the community.  They acquired 200 acres to expand - farm animals, classrooms, storage, etc.
Everyone can help by volunteering, fostering or donating.

POLAR PLUNGE - Special Olympics:  Kelly Ligozio is here to tell us about the Polar Plunge this year on Feb 2nd.  Last year, West Irondequoit High School was the largest school to participate but Eastridge is coming this year!  Over $380,000 raised last year for Special Olympics.  4 local athletes will be going to the games in Turin Italy!  Volunteers are needed for the day if you can help out.  Our club will again support with some plungers and all can donate.  See Dan Dwyer for info.
