Jack Best thanked our club for all our donations of time/talent/treasures for the ROC CITY UnCorked Auction.  A unique opportunity to work alongside 5 other area clubs in a collaborative effort to raise funds for Camp Haccamo and other local Rotary charities.  Dan Dwyer updated us on the great success achieved:  surpassed the minimum revenue goal, great support and participation by our club members, lots of learning for the future, pick-up of the auction items is ongoing.

 

Sad to report that Kim Miranda's father passed away.  Sincere condolences to Kim and her entire family.

 

Our list of future Speakers is dwindling.  Please see President Tom if you can arrange for an upcoming speaker/program.  Remember, it doesn't have to be a local person as we are on Zoom so the speaker can be anywhere in the world!!

 

President Tom and Terri Bastuk met with Irondequoit Town Supervisor Dave Seeley to brainstorm potential future projects by our club to help the town.  Report of ideas coming up next Business Meeting.

 

 

 

 

Jerry Bennett was introduced by Jim Kozlowski who knows Jerry through their work with Drug-Free Irondequoit: Together.  Jerry is with the Finger Lakes Prevention Resource Center but he was here tonight to talk about his passion of Stamp Collecting.  Jerry got the bug from his Father who started with a stamp book dated 1928.  He collects stamps but his driving motivations are an acute interest in history/geography/culture, etc -- all the other interesting aspects learned through stamp collecting.  Jerry is constantly seeking new sources for used stamps from friends, relatives, and acquaintances.  He soaks old stamps in a tub in order to separate them from the envelope.  When he was younger, he struck up a pen pal exchange with a German fellow and they ended up exchanging stamps for over 25 years but never met in person.  Whenever he travels or someone he knows travels, he asks that they send him postcards so he can collect the stamps.  Jerry was able to show us several of his most unusual stamps and the history behind them.  In addition to Stamp Collecting, Jerry does talks on the Underground Railroad and the Red Cross where he has been a volunteer for 55 years.  Very interesting presentation.

Lots of contributions for:  ROC CITY UnCorked club volunteers, Jerry Bennett's presentation, Kim Miranda's Father passing, BJ Cunningham's work with Seniors & the Dictionaries, and the health of several club members and family.  Ray Holla has been a Rotarian for 19 years and Dave Shaheen 20 years.  Jenny Gugino is under the weather and everyone wishes her a speedy recovery plus thoughts and prayers because this week is 10 years since the death of her daughter, Marisa.
