Bill Gormont & Bruce Amey are facilitators for the District Strategic Planning committee. They conduct workshops with clubs to create long term strategic plans. These plans are like the address you input into a GPS. Without the right input, you will get to the wrong destination. They help clubs identify the tasks that will help them accomplish their most important goals. Their steps: 1) Perform a strategic analysis "SWOT" - Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats. 2) Develop the Future VISION 3) Detail the strategic ACTIONS. 4) Execute the strategy. 5) Monitor and adjust the Strategy. Change in club culture/strategy/direction can be like a "grieving process". Some members may move to the future faster than others so we need to keep monitoring members as the process takes place as to their connection and interest in the strategic changes. Without a strategic plan, clubs "get in a rut", don't address real community needs, get complacent members, get short-term focused, etc. Doing strategic planning: Provides clear focus on critical objectives, improves decision-making, achieves goals with less time and money, renews club energy, etc. The process starts with a Club Health Check survey to assess members understanding of current situation. At least 75% of members need to complete the survey to make it actionable. Once survey is complete, we analyze the results and then have a 4-5 hour workshop to create the Strategic Plan. After the presentation, the club agreed to go forward with the Strategic Planning project but to wait until after the Pasta Dinner so we do not lose focus on this important fundraiser. |
