Meeting Notes
Bob Scheidt presided tonight.

Bishop Kearney Kitchen Project:  Bob Sheidt announced that the Mendick Foundation has stepped forward to provide the remaining donations needed to update the kitchen grill, range, and ovens.  This is in addition to funds from Bishop Kearney and Irondequoit Rotary.  Many thanks for Peter and John Mendick for their donation!  This resolves a huge issue we would have had for the next Pasta Dinner in November as the current appliances were not sufficient for our needs.

Signature Project:  Erin Magee from the Town Parks & Facilities will be at our April 9th meeting so we certainly will be able to review status at that time.  Tom Kosanke will talk with her before to discuss path forward due to the town hall situation.  We have verbal agreements to move forward as the club previously voted but we would need to have something in writing before proceeding.

Student Scholarship Award Project:  All three schools have been notified and we are awaiting their feedback to select award winners.

District Grant:  All paperwork has been submitted for next year's grant proposal.  The proposal is to provide the following to the town Community Rec Center:  (1) Sensory Tent for Autistic Children, (2) T-Ball equipment for McAvoy Park and (3) Zoo Mobile

Program Notes
Neal Gorman is President of Camp Haccamo.  He is a member of Penfield Rotary Club and he was heavily influenced in becoming a Rotarian and then supporting Haccamo by two mentors who have passed:  Bill Petheck and Don Milton.  Neal is a marketing guy so he sent us financial info in an email last week.  He also passed out Haccamo Fact Sheets.  Haccamo starting in 1956 and settled in the Panorama Plaza site in 1960 where Irondequoit had its own cabin that our club supported for many years.  The camp moved to the Sunshine Campus in 2009.

The camp season this year is July 28 - Aug 1st for ages 7-18 and August 4-8 for ages 19-30.  Highlights are Carnival Night for younger group and Prom Night for older campers.  Camp provides socialization, special events and skill development for campers.  Lot of activities:  paddle boats, zip line, tree fort, archery, train rides, etc.  170 campers = hundreds of smiles!  Registration for camp is underway and it is about half-way full so far.  In addition to providing a great experience for the campers, the camp also provides a much needed respite for camper families.  One family rented a home near camp anticipating that they would be called to pick up their child -- never happened.  Another family booked a trip to Las Vegas while child was at camp to get away and enjoy the time off from daily care-taking.

There is a proactive investment occurring in the Development and Fundraising Program for Haccamo.  A development person was hired and the goal is to reduce reliance on the foundation and financial contributions from the club with fundraising efforts.  Neal has also greatly increased communications from the camp to the clubs and general public.  Email lists are being generated and a Blog post was added to the website.  One great story of the camp's impact is Ian Bankes.  Ian worked at the camp as a youth and is now on the Camp Haccamo Board.  See Ian's story HERE.   Upcoming fundraising events are the Car, Truck and Cycle Show and the Polar Bear Plunge.

After Neal's presentation, our club presented him with a $3,500 check for our annual donation to support such a great cause and one of our club's longstanding beneficiaries.
