Meeting Notes
The club voted to support Nik Smith's Eagle Scout project with a donation of $500 and any sweat equity Nick needs from us.  Great project to support local community need for food.

The Drawdown fundraiser has gotten good participation.  95 tickets of the 100 needed are already sold.  Get you money into Dave Shaheen asap.

The Sunset House Cleanup team is ready and anxious to help spruce up this weekend.  Kudos to Lou DiPrima for organizing over 17 volunteers to help with much and spring cleanup.

Change-over Installation dinner is shaping up.  Lynn Wozniak has it narrowed down to a few locations and is planning for a $50 per person cost.  Confirmed date is June 23rd.

A project to clean up the grounds around the Rotary Lighthouse in Sea Breeze is getting underway.  See Terri Bastuk or Dan Dwyer for more info.

Program Notes

Nik Smith is working on his Eagle Scout project to build raised beds for the Irondequoit Food Cupboard Garden at Vineyard Church.  His grandfather, Lon Smith, is helping out and also participated in the presentation this evening.  Nik is rounding up volunteers to help do the work.  He has a list of product needed at a cost of around $800 and would like to get started as soon as possible to be ready for the start of the growing season.  Much planning has already been completed and Nick is waiting for the final ok from the powers-that-be in the Scouting world before he gets going on the work.  Great project being run by a fine young man.

Katrina Hall, Director of Recreation for Irondequoit, and Becky Sheldon, Finance, reviewed the status of the new Irondequoit Community Center being built at the old Irondequoit Mall.  They are talking to groups like us now as planning is underway and they want community feedback.  The center will consist of over 40,000 square feet and will be 2 levels.  It will include lounges for seniors and teens, a dining area, a gymnasium, community rooms, and fitness rooms.  The goal for the center is to be the hub of Irondequoit activity.  They are trying to have activities for each stage of life.  Besides physical fitness, there will be classes for arts and social activities.  There will be volunteer opportunities for those who can teach classes or work at senior events such as bingo, and youth and family programs.  Irondequoit residents will have some free access of the facility and will pay reduced rates for other aspects of the community center offerings.  More details are forthcoming on costs involved.  Volunteer opportunities will be posted to the town website when they become available.  We asked about a display area for Rotary and the center will have spots for this if we choose to pursue it.  Opening is planned for mid-August.
